This Week at DSF
Posted 5/27/2012 10:56pm by Brad Rishel.
Show Low Farmers' Market began Saturday, and with lots of wind! 40 to 50 mph wind gust were the norm. The Show Low airport weather station reported gusts as high as 55 mph. Needless to say, this presented a challenge for the vendors and shoppers at the outdoor market. DSF arose to the challenge by setting up on the leeward side of our truck and trailer, and anchoring our canopies to them. We were surprised at the good turn out on this very windy day. Here, Marilyn Knight from Milky Ranch, looks on as Cindy Percy and Hannah secure fabric to the front of the ice chests. Cindy will be helping us out at market this year.
If the wind wasn't enough, Saturday night our gardens got hit by a late freeze. Most things were still protected, but our potatoes took a hit, as you can see in the photo below, but we think they will recover. All of this just to remind us that the farmer is never in control--we can only hope to work with nature in bringing you nutritious garden fare.
We're adding more and more produce items from week to week. We still have a good selection of tomato plants ready to set out in your garden--from 6 packs to gallon size. Don't forget to take a look at our other department pages. FARMERS' MARKET is every Saturday in Show Low. We won't be able to attend every week during the summer, but we'll keep you informed via these newsletters. Watch for our market announcement later in the week. ORDERS & DELIVERIES:
We take orders for deliveries via our website. We are currently delivering in Holbrook, and can bring orders to the Show Low Farmers' Market. Please place your order no later than Wednesday night. Any orders placed after Wednesday will go into the next week's orders, unless we just happen to have time to work it in. I will refresh the inventories before sending out this newsletter--usually on Sunday evenings or Monday.
We request at least a $5.00 minimum order for orders. Friday is delivery day in Holbrook. Please place your orders as soon as you can, preferably by Tuesday, but no later than Wednesday night for current week delivery. There are limited supplies on most things, and we operate on a first-come-first-serve basis. This includes our commercial customers this year. The same pages are open to everyone. The online store is now open. Click on this link to SHOP NOW.
